Take the leadership role of this highly regarded community organisation in Horsham, the thriving heartland of the Wimmera. Owned and operated by the Victorian District of the Lutheran Church of Australia,  Sunnyside Lutheran Retirement Village provides a welcoming home to over 150 people in residential care and retirement living.

Set in a scenic location, the entire facility has been upgraded in recent years to enable ageing in place, and includes 66 ILUs.  Committed to quality care and services, they have always gained full accreditation.

Reporting to a governance Board, you will manage over 120 staff, and work with a professional and dedicated team in a positive culture of excellence and innovation that genuinely cares for its many residents.  You will build upon Sunnyside’s impressive performance through further development of their relationships with funding bodies, residents and their families, staff and the general community.


For this broad leadership role you must be a strategy-oriented and creative CEO with a sound commitment to community welfare principles, and have the ability to incorporate them within a business model context. Experience in working with a Board of Governance is essential, and an understanding of the human services sector would be well regarded.

About the organisation

Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd (BAH) is a subsidiary company of Baptcare, the welfare and aged care agency of the Baptist Union of Victoria.   BAH operates as a Not-For-Profit Housing Provider, registered by the Registrar of Housing Agencies under the Housing Act 1983.

The key objectives of BAH include a commitment to:

·         Providing and/or managing well-maintained affordable housing.

·         Facilitating tenancy management which supports vulnerable tenants and allows households to have a say in the way their housing is managed.

·         Co-operating in place management strategies that build community.

·         Partnering with Baptcare and other agencies to ensure tenants’ needs are adequately met.


BAH currently has a strategy to provide and/or manage up to 500 properties by the year 2020.

About the Board

·         Current Board size:               Currently 5 Directors.  2 vacancies

·         Board Meeting location:     Camberwell

About the vacancy

·         This is a voluntary position with expenses reimbursed.

·         BAH seeks to appoint two independent non-executive Directors.

·         The role requires attending approximately 7 board meetings per year, during the evening. In addition it may be necessary to take part in monthly conference calls and/or occasional weekend workshops.

As a skills-based Board and in line with current specific requirements, candidates with skills in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

·         Experience in the Community Housing or Social/Affordable-Housing Sector

·         Marketing and/or PR Advertising

·         Finance

·         Property Development

Educational requirements

ESSENTIAL - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with significant industry experience

DESIRABLE - Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course

Other attributes 

Active involvement in a local church community and an understanding of Baptist values and faith.
