Vision Australia - which includes Seeing Eye Dogs - is the largest national provider of blindness and low vision services in Australia.  Our mission is to support people who are blind or have low vision to live the life they choose.

The Gifts in Wills and Community Manager is a key leadership position responsible for guiding the strategy and delivery of Vision Australia’s relationships with confirmed and potential bequestors, along with management and growth of the community fundraising program - in support of mutually beneficial, long-term bequest and financial support for our goals.

Reporting to the GM Fundraising you will lead, support and actively manage a small team, simultaneously collaborating  relationships between bequestors, committee members, community fundraisers and key internal stakeholders across the organisation.

This position demands a professional with extensive experience in the management of bequest programs, along with high level interpersonal and influencing skills, and a demonstrated ability to meet significant targets.

Building on a solid foundation of success, you will identify, engage and steward relationships with existing and potential donors, fostering  effective long term relationships. Additionally, you will ensure committees and community fundraisers are supported in their activities, and opportunities are maximised for the benefit of Vision Australia.

Bringing an empathic style and respect for confidentiality and discretion, you will possess solid understanding around legislation affecting gifts in wills and the role direct marketing plays in bequest solicitation, community fundraising and relationship development.

About the organisation

Baptcare Affordable Housing Ltd (BAH) is a subsidiary company of Baptcare, the welfare and aged care agency of the Baptist Union of Victoria.   BAH operates as a Not-For-Profit Housing Provider, registered by the Registrar of Housing Agencies under the Housing Act 1983.

The key objectives of BAH include a commitment to:

·         Providing and/or managing well-maintained affordable housing.

·         Facilitating tenancy management which supports vulnerable tenants and allows households to have a say in the way their housing is managed.

·         Co-operating in place management strategies that build community.

·         Partnering with Baptcare and other agencies to ensure tenants’ needs are adequately met.


BAH currently has a strategy to provide and/or manage up to 500 properties by the year 2020.

About the Board

·         Current Board size:               Currently 5 Directors.  2 vacancies

·         Board Meeting location:     Camberwell

About the vacancy

·         This is a voluntary position with expenses reimbursed.

·         BAH seeks to appoint two independent non-executive Directors.

·         The role requires attending approximately 7 board meetings per year, during the evening. In addition it may be necessary to take part in monthly conference calls and/or occasional weekend workshops.

As a skills-based Board and in line with current specific requirements, candidates with skills in at least one of the following areas are encouraged to apply:

·         Experience in the Community Housing or Social/Affordable-Housing Sector

·         Marketing and/or PR Advertising

·         Finance

·         Property Development

Educational requirements

ESSENTIAL - Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field with significant industry experience

DESIRABLE - Successful completion of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Course

Active involvement in a local church community and an understanding of Baptist values and faith.
